Table of contents in an online store is an element that presents the structure of a long description in a condensed form. The table of contents is placed above the product description, long description pages (CMS) or blog posts. The table of contents consists of hyperlinks linking to each section of the description.
UX BOOSTER From a UX perspective, a table of contents improves the user experience of your online store, which will result in:
- Reduced rejection rate
- Increased time spent on the site
- Increased conversions
A table of contents makes it easier for users to navigate through content, especially when a page has a lot of text, many sections and headings. A table of contents is useful for users who are looking for specific information or want to quickly jump to a specific section without having to scroll through the page.
In the module settings, you can enable automatic table of contents generation for:
- Long product description
- CMS page
- Blog entries from our SEO Blog module
Based on the H1 - H6 headings found in the text, the module creates a multi-level table of contents. All items in the table of contents are internal links (anchors), which take the user to the appropriate places in the text (automatically scroll the page).
In the module configuration, select which headings (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6) you want the module to use when generating the table of contents. It can be, for example, only H1 and H2.
In the module, you can enable the display of the table of contents for product pages, CMS pages and the blog.
Additionally, set the minimum number of characters above which the table of contents will be generated - sometimes it is not worth generating a table of contents for very short descriptions. If the module does not detect any heading in the content, the table of contents will not be generated either.
Automatically on the product page
The module detects where the long product description is displayed. The table of contents will appear above the long description. You can disable or enable table of contents generation for this product in the product edit.
Automatically on a CMS page
The module will display the table of contents above the content of the CMS page. In the module, you can indicate the CMS pages for which you want to generate the table of contents.
You can disable automatic placement and use Smart-Tags. Paste the Smart-Tag anywhere in your template to display the table of contents in it.
Once installed and configured, the module works unattended. The module intelligently examines when a product description, CMS or blog post has changed and only then updates the table of contents. It does not require the use of CRON.
